It was like a mysterious nightmare that materialized into the daily reality of Mr. Novák, the owner of the senior citizens’ home and hostel. I’m not afraid to use the word mystery. Nebojím se použít to slovo – záhada. Invoices were several times higher than what they had ever been before. At first Mr. Novak thought it was a mistake. Maybe an old computer system that misread the measurements. But the numbers were relentless.
He started having nightmares of numbers and mounting losses. His business was on the verge of collapse. When he started to think about it more seriously, he realised that his retirement home and hostel consumed an enormous amount of energy – especially for heating. And that was the turning point. He had to find a solution, and quickly.
After many sleepless nights and unsuccessful searches for alternatives, Mr Novák decided to take a radical step. He decided to invest in a combined heat and power plant. It was like the last hope of salvation.
He had a modern system installed in the hostel consisting of two generators, an exhaust gas heat exchanger and an LPG tank. Every detail has been thought out to optimise the production and use of energy. And a similar system was installed in a senior home, where a micro-cogeneration unit and a hot water aggregation tank were added.
When the new systems were launched for the first time, it was like a miracle for Mr Novák. Not only was he able to reduce his energy costs, but his facility was able to produce enough electricity and heat not only for the nursing home and residential facility, but also for the surrounding residents. It was like coming up from the bottom and starting over.
Mr. Novak realized that this crisis was ultimately a blessing. He not only saved his business, but also became a pioneer in energy efficiency. What’s more, his story has begun to serve as an inspiration to others facing the same problems. It was a challenge he met and turned into a success.
